Anna Cousins

Excelerate Assistant Director

I grew up in Deerwood, a small town in Northern Minnesota. And by small town, I mean 580 people. My family and I lived in a quiet, spacious house in the woods on Lake Reno.  I still love going back to visit.

Pretty much since I was born, my family taught me to love the Lord and make Him the priority no matter what. I grew up going to church and accepted Christ at a very young age.

In 2008, I moved the the Cities to attend Northwestern College where I received a degree in Psychology. But I knew I wanted to work for a ministry or church someday.

I started attending Substance off and on in 2007 and consistently when I permanently moved to the Cities. I immediately fell in love with the passionate worship, genuine community and deep teaching at Substance. Of course, Pastor Peter’s energy and passion always made me excited to come back. I slowly got more involved in different Subgroups and ministry teams and then eventually joined the internship. My life was completely changed while interning. God has revealed to me my true passions and calling while being a part of the internship. Currently, I am the  Excelerate Assistant Director for the Internship Program and Discipleship School.

I am passionate about raising up leaders and empowering people to be the best version of themselves. I love that I get to not only see interns lives being changed, but also hundreds of lives by the impact the interns make. I loved seeing people who feel totally inadequate and ill-prepared become incredible, amazing leaders.
