Armin Assadi

Missions & Church Planting Consultant

I was born in Tehran, Iran; a beautiful place, but also one filled with hate and violence.  At age 6 my family moved to Pakistan, where we lived in the projects of Karachi and Lahore for 17 months before moving to Minneapolis.  By the time I turned 19, I was seriously involved in racketeering and a drug ring, and for the next few years, things would only get worse.

When I turned 26, I crashed.  I was exhausted, sick of the life I’d created.  I said good-bye to the people I was working with, and I was out.  Of course the journey after that wasn’t easy, there were legal ramifications for some of the choices I had made, but God answered my plea for help and became real in a way I never expected.

I started looking for a church home and went to an incredible number of services before getting connected to a Men of the City group through Sanctuary Covenant in Minneapolis.   At the first meeting, I met Pastor Mark Mellen and attended Substance Church soon after.  I loved Substance the second I walked in, I knew it was home.  I kept coming, led the load out team and kept up with Men of the City.

I love the people, my peers, and the lives that I see get transformed by God.  I get to be part of so many testimonies through the movement of God; I witness the renewal of lives and faith, and have the opportunity to see God impact this world through the call that He has put on this Church.  It is amazing and I am awestruck on a daily basis. I feel absolutely honored to be a part of it all.

In addition to my Substance gig, I’m also pursuing a degree in Entrepreneurial Business Management at Century College. My entrepreneurial side keeps me looking for new projects; I’m most proud of my new Medical Device Supply Solutions company, CorCardia Group Inc..  I’ve been on the board of a couple of non-profits in the past and and have done a lot of fundraising events for non-profits through my past businesses.

In my spare time, I love to cook, dance, play sports, network, launch ministries, speak publicly, write, start businesses, run team building workshops, Strength Finders, and do anything that allows me to be strategic. Of course sometimes I just lay around; one of my favorite things to do is to watch movies--anything from cheesy love stories to action movies.  If it’s got a good story, or even a half-way good story, I’ll probably watch it.
