As the Kids Ministry Volunteer Coordinator here at Substance and I absolutely love what I do. I have a heart for children and families, I think it is so amazing to be able to teach our kids and show them the love of Christ each and every week. It is very fulfilling working with all of the volunteers and leaders on the team to equip and inspire them in this ministry.
I grew up in a very small town called Washburn in Wisconsin. I lived on a farm for most of my life and loved the beauty and the freedom of living in the country. I grew up in a Christian home and had a fairy tale childhood. But all of that came to an abrupt halt when my parents got divorced when I was in high school.
I walked away from the Lord and started down a very dark path. I got involved with the wrong crowd in school. I stopped caring about what other people thought, and I partied every night of the week. After I graduated from high school, I wanted a fresh start and was craving change in my life. I decided to pursue fashion and moved to the big city (Minneapolis!). I enrolled with my friend Tina at the Aveda Institute. Tina and I continued to party and drink together almost every night.
One evening I got a call saying that Tina had just committed suicide. That night I got on my hands and knees and praying to God for help. Profound and deep peace comforted me as I prayed. I knew without a doubt that everything was going to be okay. The next week my cousin called and invited me to Substance. I thought it sounded cool, so I told him I would check it out. From the moment I arrived, I knew my life was about to radically change. My world was rocked from the inside out. I rededicated my life to the Lord that day and have never looked back.
God has blessed me and led me in a direction I love! I am a leader for the women’s ministry, The Well. I love helping women find freedom and discover their true beauty and identity in Christ. I am also in the Focus Program at Northwestern College for Counseling.
Since I have previous experience working at Spalon Montage and Marc Daniel Salons, I am the unofficial Staff Hairstylist. I like to think I keep everyone looking fly.
In my free time, I enjoy dancing, catching the latest chick flick, and reading.
