Pastor Chad King

Youth Pastor

I am from Mequon, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. I grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ when I was seven. I didn't fully understand what that meant though until I was 12, and I rededicated my life to God while on a Youth Retreat. I was very involved in my church growing up, but really made my faith my own when I was in college. It was during that time that I was baptized.

I knew of Substance while I attended North Central University, but I couldn't make it my home church because I was volunteering in a youth group somewhere else.  I visited whenever I could. I graduated from North Central with a Youth Ministry degree, Business Supporting Program, and Leadership Development Minor. I spent two summers interning in the youth department at Fellowship Church in Grand Junction, CO. While there I learned a ton about what goes into running a youth ministry as well as what the life of a pastor looks like.

After a year working at Rawhide, an at-risk boys camp in Wisconsin, I decided to move back to Minneapolis because of Substance. It was a simple enough reason: I didn't know church could be like this.  And I knew I wouldn't be able to find a church like this just anywhere, so I moved to the Cities and jumped in head first, getting involved wherever they would take me. It's been one of the best things I've ever done.

I interned at Substance in the Excelerate program for a year and a half, most recently as the Lead Campus Pastor Intern at the Fridley Campus. I gained a lot of leadership experience, and I DEFINITELY would not be here if it wasn't for the internship program.
I met my wife Angie at Substance--we exchanged sarcasatic jabs back and forth four times before we even actually introduced ourselves. After that, sparks flew and we were married a year and a half later!
I absolutely LOVE coming to work everyday- the staff is like my second family!  I love that in my job I get to let others know that church can be (and IS) different, and that I can help them find live-giving relationships.  I also love discipling people and growing them as leaders so they can step into the purpose God has for them. This job is truly a dream come true!

I am passionate about people coming to Christ. I love to see them make their faith their own, to watch that "AHA!" moment when they realize why they believe what they believe.

I love sports (Go Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and Bucks!), hanging out with friends and family (doesn't matter what we're doing, as long as we're together!), eating, watching TV, traveling, roller coasters and water parks, bursting into spontaneous song with my beautiful wife and laughing.
