When can I start the Excelerate program?
The internship starts February 1st and August 1st.  Applications are due on January 1st for the winter semester and June 3rd for the summer semester.

Is there a cost associated with the program?
There is a $4500 program fee for the first year to cover food, retreats, books, events, and staffing.  If you are asked back for a second year, the program fee is $1500.

Is there financial aid available?
There is a scholarship program available to students starting with the August 1st Cohort.  Scholarships are disseminated based on factors such as financial need and previous service to the church.  Applications for scholarships are available on the Apply tab on the right hand side and are due by June 1st.  
In addition, we recommend applicants raise support for the internship - there are numerous materials available for applicants to begin fund raising.  For more information, email excelerate@substancechurch.com.

How many hours a week does the internship require?
Each intern will put in approximately 20-30 hours a week in leadership classes and doing ministry such as helping run Sunday morning worship services, meeting with people throughout the week, training leaders, etc.

What will I learn in the leadership classes?
Our leadership classes are designed to equip all of our interns, irrespective of their track, to excel in leadership no matter where their future takes them.  This includes training in MBTI personality types and Strength Finders, gaining a thorough understanding of Substances methodology in its volunteer and leadership systems, and learning leadership principles utilized by some of the most renowned leaders in modern society. 

What will I receive upon completing the program?
All interns who complete the entire program will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the year.  Churches and ministries who contact us looking for staff will be directed to our interns who finish in high standing.

How old are students?
Our age requirement is 18-30.  We draw a variety of ages to our program, although on average, the largest age range falls in the early-to-mid 20's.  Many interns are currently in college or are working full time jobs.

What are the weekly time commitments?
For all interns, the weekly schedule is as follows:
Monday nights: 6-9:30pm
Saturday: every third Saturday 1:30-7pm
Sunday: 6am-6pm
**Depending on the track, other set weekly time commitments may be required.

I am married with a family, do you have daycare for my children … Can you cater to them?
At this time, we do not have childcare available for children.

Can I get a job at Substance Church after completing Excelerate?
Do not expect to get a job at Substance after completing your Excelerate internship.
